Margery V. Aber Independent Learner Scholarship

Named for Margery V. Aber, the first Aber Suzuki Center director, this scholarship awards students who exemplify Margery's philosophy of each child developing the skills necessary to be a life-long learner.

The scholarship recognizes Suzuki students over age 12 who demonstrate excellence in applying Suzuki principles to their daily life and musical practice, such as:

  • Demonstrating a positive attitude toward musical development (enthusiasm, commitment, and pride in all accomplishments);
  • Preparing for weekly lessons and special performances;
  • Cultivating artistic appreciation within the program and in the community; and
  • Practicing service and leadership in the community and within the Aber Suzuki Center.

Students receiving this scholarship will meet the following criteria:
  • Are enrolled in 6th through 11th grade;
  • Have completed at least two consecutive semesters of study at the Aber Suzuki Center;
  • Are currently enrolled;
  • Demonstrate regular attendance at lessons, marathons, and group lessons;
  • Practice Suzuki principles such as daily practice, listening, and regular review;
  • Demonstrate regular participation in community outreach and performance for the Aber Suzuki Center and/or independently in the community; and
  • Is current with Aber Suzuki Center tuition.

Awards guidelines:

Student completes and submits this application form by April 18, 2017.
  • The Margery V. Aber Independent Learner Scholarship will be awarded one time per year in the spring.
  • Up to five students will receive $300 per student in scholarship funds to be applied to their Aber Suzuki Center tuition.
  • Scholarship funds will be applied to the student's fall semester Aber Suzuki Center tuition.
